Maths reflection

For maths I have improved a lot with my 24 hour times. I think IXL is helping a lot with my maths because when I wrote down how we did in our test I got better scores than the first one. I also think our AWS is quite helpful as well. If we didn't have IXL I wouldn't know as much as I do now.

Pompom bunting

This week for iDrive I did pompom buntings. We did pompom bunting for a very special girl that has cancer. I decided that I was going put some sparkly string on the pompoms. Elizabeth and I made heaps of pompoms. We made about 20 pompoms for the bunting. The colours that I chose to do were white, peachy pink, light blue and light green. All we did to make the pompoms is wrap the wool around our fingers, take the wool off, take it off make it look like a bow and then cut the sides off it.

The learning power that I would of used would be collaboration so we could know what colours we would use. We still need to put about 5 more pompoms on it and then it will be finished!

Here is a photo of the bunting.

High jump

A few weeks ago I did high jump with with the 10 year old girls. I think I was running a bit to slow so I didn't do the scissors properly. I think if I run faster it will improve. Athletics is next Monday so I hope I do better.

Labour day

Labour day is all about celebrating the right for the people to work 8 hours a day.
In 1840 Samuel Parnell won the 8-hour working day in Wellington because he refused to work a longer day.
Working an 8 hour day meant that people could spend more time with their families, and not get too tired. When people are tired they can have accidents, so it also made working safer.
Labour day was first celebrated in New Zealand on the 28th of October 1890. Labour day is always on the fourth Monday of October.
For heaps of people in New Zealand Labour is just another day off work. Lots of people work more than 8 hours a day, especially people like truck drivers, doctors and farmers.
I like Labour Day because I can have a nice big rest for one day.

iDrive

This week for iDrive I did carpentry. For carpentry I made a jewellery holder for my earrings and hair ties. I painted it blue but it is so close to looking like grey. When I was putting on the nails they all fell out but I used my resilience and tried to put them back in and they did. I also used my creativity and thought of how I could make it creative. Next week I am going to put a little bag on the side of the jewellery holder with fabric.
Here is a photo.

Matamata show on the Holidays

On the second Saturday in the holidays I went to a show in Matamata. At the show I showed my calf Millie in the Calf Club section and the Young Handles section. For the Calf Club section there are three rings witch are leading, rearing and Dairy Type.

For leading there was 15-17 people in the senior ring that I was in. There were only six places to get so it was quite hard! I decided that I was going to lead my calf first so she wouldn't get tired waiting for other people. I didn't get anything for leading because I was going a bit fast on the 3 second stop. At least Millie didn't stop!

After leading I did rearing. There was still 15-17 people in my ring. I told the judge what I new about my calf like what injections she needs, when she was born what she eats, when she has her milk and what here name was. After I told the judge that the judge looked at how clean she was, how soft she was, how nicely brushed she was and if she had 4 teats.

The last thing was dairy type. Dairy type is just about what your calf looks like. For Dairy type there are heavy and light breeds. I was in the light breed because my calf is a jersey. I got third in it.

After the Calf Club section I did Young Handles. For Young Handles we have to look at the judge while we are walking with them and stand our calves. I got third in it as well.

The next show I am doing is our school Calf Club and I know its going to be hard again!

Learning in the making Conference

Last Friday it was the Learning in the making Conference. I did four things, claymations, tie dye, maths challenge and science.

The first thing I did was claymations. Claymations is when you make something out of playdough and then take 30 photos on this special website. Summer, Anna-Louise and I made a cat, two bowls, a mouse and wool. It didn't really work out that well, but it was really fun!

The second thing we did was Sharpie tie dye. Sharpie tie dye is when you have Sharpie, a cotton T-shirt, one glass and this special alcohol from the pharmacy. I didn't finish it but I can do it at home. I designed a flower, these spots and some other creations.

The third thing I did was maths challenge. For maths challenge I did timetables and algebra. I found algebra quite hard but I learnt how to do it. I found doing the timetables a little bit hard because there was 12 timetable but I still got 45 out of 59.

The last thing I did was science. For science we tried to use a battery, a nail and wire to lift a paper clip. When we joined the wire to the to battery it burnt my finger. Our teacher gave us a clue of how we could do it and then it ended up that we could hold about ten paper clips!

My favourite thing to do was sharpie tie dye because we could create really cool stuff and create with our own imaginations.

That was what I did for learning in the making conference and I can't wait till next year.

iDrive

This week I  am writing about iDrive. Summer(my friend)  and I played cards and we played 3 games, snap, last card and go fish. Go fish is game when you have seven cards and ask the people that you play with. If they had the card you ask and if they didn't you pick up a card in the pile, if they did you get their card and then ask again. Last card is a game when you also have seven cards and put down the logo that your are in down. The last game is snap. Snap is a game when you have two share out all the cards. You each put down a card fast when its your churn. When there is a pare you snap and then you win. It was very fun playing cards and want learn some more games.

iDrive Reflection

Last week we did iDrive and I did Carpentry. My friend and I made these little hangers for our pets and made mine for my cat Smokey. It is black and grey because my cat Smokey is black and grey. First I got some wood and nails and nailed two bits of wood together. Then I gently hammered in five nails in but still pointing out. After I did all that I started painting. As you all know I painted it black and grey. After I painted I wrote on the front Smokey my cute cat and at the back I wrote in liking Smokey Pirie. I did all the writing at home.

iDrive

1440628100477.9.jpgThis week I did playdough for iDrive. Me and and my friends made a magical zoo with some magical animals. There is penguins, rabbits, tiger and a turtle. I made a big rabbit but the other animals I made got mucked up. The playdough was messed up so they were odd coloured. I tried to do a cat and a dog but they didn't work out so I tried a duck but it didn't work as well.

what makes the ocean blue when the water is clear?

This week I am telling you about what makes the ocean blue when the water is clear?. The ocean is blue because of the way that it hits sunlight. I thought the water was blue because of the water and salt reflecting of the blue sky.

When sunlight hits the ocean the water strongly absorbs long. Wavelengths colours at the red end of the light area, as well as short-wavelengths light including violet and ultraviolet. The remaining light that we see is mostly made up of blue wavelengths.

So if you were ever wondering what makes the ocean blue when the water is clear?, that is the answer.

Art reflection

This week I am telling you about my art reflection. For our art we did lino print. At first I created what I wanted to on a draft peace of paper do and then we put it on a good peace of paper. After we done the good peace of paper we flipped it on the lino then scribbled on the back. When we scribbled all over the back it all went on the back neatly. After that I started carving my lino. I got some cuts on my fingers but it was OK. When I finished all my carving we put the ink on.

After we put the ink on we put it on the paper. We had to get a roller and roll the lino hard on the paper. After that we carved some more out then done the same thing till we thought we had done it how we wanted. The lino is not finished so it will look different to the one on the paper. Here is the finished product...

I found it fun and I would really like to do this again.

Before we dropped of my friends we bought some hot chips and four hot dogs then went to the park at Ngatea. After we dropped off my friends me and my mum went to the calf club shed to do my calf club calf Mily we tried a halter, Mily hated it. Two days later mum went to the calf club shed and there was mess everywhere!
The mess was cased by a mini tornado. A tree got cut in half and the shed calf club calves got Damaged. That was my holiday.

quote

I chose this quote because sometimes I feel bad and keep thinking about it and sometime I have a big smile and it leaves my face so I get grumpy for the rest of the day. Because I have this quote I will always remember to leave what I feel bad about and just keep my big smile on my face. This is why I chose this quote.

Character Description

This week our group the Choc bars have been finishing of our character description about someone in our family. I wrote about my dad. Now we are starting another character description about character in a movie. Here is my character description about my dad.

planning
drinking beer

Jobs
farmer . volunteer as firefighter
when he’s born
Born on  October the 4th 1963, born in Te awamutu

what he look’s like
bald at the top of his head  blue eyes
Food/drink that he likes
beer,Lamb Roast
sea food
what he likes doing
fishing hunting
What he does
drinks beer on the couch or table, Snores loudly while asleep, milks cows, drives a tractor does slobbery kisses

A blue eyed man sits on a red couch drinking Wild Buck beer while watching 3 News on TV. He is bald right on the top of his head and has grey hair at the side. This man has scratches on his arms  from working a long day on the farm. He likes to go fishing, hunting, drives tractors and milks cow.

Mum, Celine (my sister) and I like to show our calves, but he doesn't. The only time he came with us is when we said we were meeting Richie Mccaw. It worked.

Usually when our dog Pippi plomps in our house  the man rests his feet on our dog. The face of Pippi’s looks squashed because she is so fat . Our puppy Blue always get’s jealous because he can’t come in.

When I was younger he gave me slobbery kisses. It’s fun hiding from him but now we don’t do it.  He cheers me up when I am sad and and sometimes makes me mad. The person who I’m writing about is my Dad.
`
My Dad is 52 years old and was born on October the 4th, 1963. Dad was born at Te Awamutu. He once volunteered as a firefighter. When my Dad was younger he had brown hair like a clown but  it got shaved off. He look’s better now that it is shaved off because I saw a picture of what he looked like. Once I even shaved the bit’s that he left. Dad like’s to eat roast and seafood. Dad always burps from beer and farts.

Dad always tickles my feet or my ticklish spots and makes me fall off the couch. I never can stop laughing when Dad tickles my feet. And whenever I am sitting where he wants to sit he sits on the edge of the couch and does a big fart right where my face is on the couch. Dad snores like a giant pig and I sometimes can hear him from in my room. When Dad comes out of the toilet he makes the whole hallway stink, it smells like rotten eggs...disgusting!

Dad always says stuff like my Grandad, and does stuff like my Grandad. Dad always says “aye”

and farts like Grandad. I think Grandad farted bad; worse than him. This is the story about dad.

Narrative

This week I have been writing my draft 3 narrative. My story is called Oscar and Alphonse.  Here's what it is looking like so far.

Oscar and Alphonse

draft 3

There lived a girl named Molly.  She loved bugs. Molly lived in a very big house in the country.
Molly was not allowed allowed outside but she could  sneak out when  know one is there.
That day she found some caterpillars in her room.  They had all these unusual colours.  She wanted to keep the caterpillars so she could  them grow.

She also wanted to see them make their cocon.  She realised they can’t grow our make a cocoon without food so she had to figure out what to do.   So she walked around the hole house to find a plant to put the caterpillars in.   She couldn’t find anything to put the the caterpillars.   She thinked in her head if she knew if their was a plant that is good and safe for caterpillars.   She figgered out an idea, she could ask her parents if they can  take her to a plant store.   They said “tomorrow in the afternoon  why do you want to go.”
Because our class is growing a caterpillar garden.
" What caterpillars are they going to be?.”asked Molly in her head

I think they can be any kind she said
"How about we can go to the shop now her mum said.
“Ahhh ok where are we going?” Molly asked her parents.
“ To the plant store like you asked us” dad explained
Now hop in the car before it shuts .
“How long to we are there” Molly asked
“One hour.”
One hour later,
”where there!.”
“So where is the caterpillar plants?.
“Over there.”
Molly’s parents get that plant.   They went to by the caterpillar plant.   Then they  arrived home,   I put all the caterpillars on my plant.  Mum asked me what day it will be and I had know I deer what to say.

Days after that day all the caterpillar were super fat.  One even was making a cocon
It was a very bright cocoon like all these rainbow colours.  All the avers are eggzakly the same.  She couldn’t whaite to the caterpillars become butterflies.  Most of the caterpillars were already in their cocoons and Molly was getting really bored from waiting for the caterpillar to grow out of their cocoons.   There were flies eating some of the caterpillars.

Molly was not happy so she went to sneaked out to find something to protect the caterpillars.
When she walked thru the hallway she saw her her her parents.  She tried to not to let her parents see her but they did!.  They asked Molly together “What have you been doing these two day’s a what are you doing now?  Molly had to show them what she had been hiding because she couldn’t keep it a secret any more.  They went upstairs so Molly’s parents what she had been hiding. They weren't in prest so they said “ You need to get them out this instant and Molly said “OK.”  She knew it was time to send them back. The caterpillars softly wiggled in her hand, spelling out
“goodbye.”
After Molly sanden them back she had tears dripping down her face.  Molly begged for them to come back.   Maybe she might find some more somewhere ales.

                                      THE END

Writing

For the past few weeks our writing group have been writing a cameo about our favourite place. Here is my short descriptive piece of writing...

Shiny water sparkles in my eyes.
Gleaming red crabs nipping on my feet.
Knobby starfish stuck on the hard rocks.
Spongy baby jelly fish crawling all over me.
Waves taking over the sand castles.
Salt sticking all over my body board.

My favourite place, Whitianga.

How To Open A Present My Way (Thursday)

Thursday First, you  shake the present to guess what is inside. Then you try to carefully tear the sellotape of the paper...
