Labour day

Labour day is all about celebrating the right for the people to work 8 hours a day.
In 1840 Samuel Parnell won the 8-hour working day in Wellington because he refused to work a longer day.
Working an 8 hour day meant that people could spend more time with their families, and not get too tired. When people are tired they can have accidents, so it also made working safer.
Labour day was first celebrated in New Zealand on the 28th of October 1890. Labour day is always on the fourth Monday of October.
For heaps of people in New Zealand Labour is just another day off work. Lots of people work more than 8 hours a day, especially people like truck drivers, doctors and farmers.
I like Labour Day because I can have a nice big rest for one day.
