What will happen to the balloon?
What will the reaction be?
Screen Shot 2017-05-02 at 1.20.55 PM.png
It will explode
The balloon will inflate because of trapped air
It will go up like a rocket

Materials:
-Balloon
-Baking Soda
-Vinegar
-Plastic Bottle
-Funnel
-Spoon

FIrst use the funnel to add the baking soda to the balloon. Then put the vinegar in the bottle. Carefully put the balloon over the top of the bottle. Once you are ready lift the balloon upwards tipping the baking soda into the vinegar and watch what happens.

When we added the baking soda into the vinegar, it made the balloon inflate.

The balloon inflated when we added the baking soda because the carbon dioxide (CO2) created from the vinegar (an acid) and the baking soda (a base) was trapped, so it went up and the balloon inflated. Therefore our hypothesis was correct in thinking that the balloon would inflate.
