Term 4 Reflection

What have you enjoyed the most this term and why?

• Calf club because I really enjoyed showing my calf and I liked seeing all my friends calves.
• I really enjoyed doing the bike ride because it was my first time ever doing the bike ride and it was really fun going through the cave.
• I really enjoyed doing my impact because I really liked making the mosaic.

What has been challenging this term and why?

• My homework project because it was a bit hard finding a idea to do.
• My SRA, because when I move on to a different colour the level goes up and it gets harder.
• It was quite hard to do athletics because on that day I had a sore back so it made it a bit hard for me to do the sprints but I still did them and I am proud of that.

What are you looking forward to next year?

I am really excited to move into Marama because I am excited to learn different stuff and go to the college for tec.

I am also excited for camp because last year when I did camp it was really, really fun!

Milk Bottle Homework

Last Monday our teachers gave us a homework project and we had to make something with a milk bottle.

For my creation I am making the North Pole because I wanted to do a Christmas themed one since Christmas is coming up soon. My project requires a lot of milk bottles for the houses and my extra little detail.

There has been a lot of challenges like cutting the milk bottles and sticking things on with the hot glue gun, but the hardest one so far has definitely been cleaning them. When I was hot gluing stuff on the milk bottles I accidently hot glue myself instead of the milk bottle on it hurt.     

For my project I had to go searching around my house to try and find something that I could use to glue my milk bottles on. After a long time searching for something to glue my stuff on I finally found some big white boards in our garage that my Mum had to use for her meeting.

At the moment I am making the houses because my Dad keep getting more and more milk bottles from our cow shed and bach, those bottles smelt bad!

Earthquake

On Monday 14th 7.5 magnitude earthquake has struck north of Christchurch, near Hanmer Springs.The earthquake was 16 km deep and struck at 12.02am.After that there were over 12 more aftershocks across the country including two 6.2 magnitude quakes near Kaikoura.A tsunami warning was issued to a number of areas around New Zealand. This included all of the East Coast of New Zealand, both in the North Island and the South.  A 2m tsunami hit Kaikoura.

A lot of people in New Zealand were woken up by the earthquake. I slept right through. Mum said because we live on a hill we didn’t feel it.

My nana and poppa were visiting Aunty Jenny in Wellington. Poppa was not happy to have to get out of his nice warm bed and evacuate up the hill.

Lots of farmers around Kaikoura and Culverton could not milk their cows because of the damage. Luckily people helped fix the sheds and the cows could be milked.

Calf Club

On Wednesday last week we had Calf Club. I brought my calf called Winter. She is a full jersey. She got me lots of ribbons. A 1st for obstacle, a Champion for obstacle, 1st for leading and a Champion that came with two trophies. Rearing 3rd and dairy type 2nd. My friend Alexa got 1 Reserve champion for leading and she came second to me in leading.

What have you enjoyed the most this term?

• Blokes day because I got to share all my learning with my dad and I got to play some games with him.
• I have enjoyed doing the iMake because I like having our own licences and I passed my first test. For my first test I did it on sawing and for that we had to measure 150mm on the wood and draw a line where it had ended. We also had to cut some wood.
• I also enjoyed doing cross country because I love getting all muddy and trying challenging things!

What has been challenging this term?

• Cross country because there were some really hard bits of mud and it slowed me down a bit.
• Some of the SRA’s because when I go up a colour the questions get harder.
• Saying my speech in front of the class and all of Whetu because I sometimes get a bit nervous and miss out some words.

What are you looking forward to next term?

I am really looking forward to Calf Club because I get to show the judges and my friends how much work I have done on my calf. I am also looking forward to that because I get to win ribbons!!!

Impact

Where are you at with your Impact project?

For impact we are giving our art space a makeover. So far we have been planning for what we are doing for our splashbacks and sketching the designs.

What have you accomplished so far?

So far we have accomplished measuring where our splashback is going and our sketches of what we are doing for the splashback.

What are your next steps in order to complete your project/projects by the Term 4 deadline?

We need to smash the tiles, lay the mosaic tiles to make it like our sketch. When we have finished our splashback we need to do the other things that we plan to.

What are you enjoying?

So far I have enjoyed doing the plannings and doing the sketches for our splashback.

Is there anything you are not enjoying?

So far there isn’t anything that I am not enjoying because I like doing makeovers.

What was your favourite workshop and why?

My most favorite workshop was Mad sciences because we got to figure out by ourselves how we were going to do it. The thing that we were doing was, blowing up a balloon and hold the bit where the air comes out, then we get a straw and then stick the straw to the balloon. After we had finished that we gave the teacher the balloon and then she held the bit were the air comes out and then she would stretch the balloon and then let it go.

Going to Dargaville with Summer

On the first Saturday of the holidays I went with Summer and her dad to Dargaville. When we left the time was about 4:00. Before we were at Summer’s Dad’s place we went to Summer’s Grann and Poppa’s house to have dinner. After we had dinner we left at about 7:00 and when we entered Dargaville it was about 9:30 at night!

When we were finally at Summer’s dad’s house we started to get our stuff out of the car and when we finished getting our stuff out of the car we decided to play some online games. After about 1 hour on the computer we had to go to bed because it was about 11 o’clock!

The next day we went to Whangarei to watch the movie Storks and when we were getting our ticket Summers Dad bought us a Pete's Dragon combo that came with a drink and popcorn. When we were watching the movie we kept on laughing because there were really funny bits in the movie.

After the movie we went to the Warehouse and Summer and I bought some things there.

The next day we went to the movies again but Summers friends, Elisa and Amber came. When we were at the movies we decided to watch Pete’s Dragon.

In some of the bits of the movie I started to have a little tear in my eye because there were some sad bits.

When the movie finished we went back to Dargaville to drop Amber off but not Elisa because she was staying the night.

When we got back to Summers Dads we played some more online games on his computer. When we finished playing the games it was time to go to bed so we did.

The next day we had to get up early so we could pack and drop Elisa off and head home.

I had heaps of fun in the holidays and I can’t wait until it is the Christmas holidays!!!

     Polystyrene Homework Challenge

            

How did you get your idea?	Who helped you?	What was the process - how did you make it?	What did you think of your end product?	When you looked at everyone else’s, which ones did you like and why?
I got the idea by looking around the house and thinking of what things I like and then I had chosen to do it on TSUM TSUM squishies.	No one helped me because it was my homework and I wanted to do it on my own, but the only thing that I got help with was getting the equipment.	First I  had a plain white cylinder polystyrene and then Mum and I went to the warehouse to buy some things that I could use to decorate my polystyrene. After I bought some stuff for it, I set up our table so it was ready for when I started to paint the polystyrene. While the paint was drying I started to draw some TSUM TSUM to stick on the polystyrene. After I had finished my drawing’s and my paint had dried I got some little minnie pegs to hang my drawings on. When I had finished sticking all the drawings on I decorated the top of the polystyrene with some letters that spelt TSUM TSUM.	I am really proud of what I have done because I didn’t get any help to do it and that I had finished.	Summer’s one because she did hers about our farm and it has my cat (Smokey) on it.

My Cross Country Recount

How did I go?	How did I feel?	How did I training contribute to your performance?
For cross country I got 11th.	I feel proud because I participated in cross country and didn’t come last.	For me it helped me with my fitness for cross country and I barely stopped.

What is my speech about?	Why did I chose the topic?	Was it easy or hard to write and research my topic?	Did I change my topic?	How am I feeling about presenting my speech to my home room?	What do you think is the hardest part of presenting and writing a speech?
This year my speech is about the history of chocolate.	The reason why I chose the topic is because when I looked on a website to see what ideas I could do my speech on, one of them was the history of chocolate, and when I saw it I wanted to learn about it and then share it to everybody so they can learn about as well.	For my writing the speech was hard because I was looking on different websites and they had the complete opposite facts on them.	For my speech I changed it twice because one of them I didn’t really like and the other one was too hard to research.	I am feeling a bit nervous because I don’t really like speaking to a lot of people and I am a bit shy.	For me the hardest thing is having the right time and saying it clearly and not to fast.

My Learning Goals

Maths Solve a word problem involving writing and equation. Getting all of my AWS 10 quick questions right. Getting all of my MDR questions right.	I will book in some conferences with the teachers and go over with them.	Not really because I haven't been booking in much conferences.	The thing that has been the best this year has been doing our art and especially the tapa art cloths	I am looking forward to doing cross country because I get to get really muddy and it will my first year doing the really big hill.
Literacy Making all of my book club tasks really detailed. To get my reading age level up. Making my speech really interesting Making my writing really detailed	For my speech I will do heaps of research and put some really cool facts in. For my writing and reading tasks I will put as much effort as I can. To help me get my reading age up I will read a lot at home and school.	For my book club tasks I am because I have been getting really good comments about them from the teacher. For my speech I think I am on track because I have been putting heaps of facts and detail in it. I think I am on track with my reading and helping my age level increase because I have been reading every night for my home reading.

Facts about Rio	.Rio is the second biggest city in Brazil. It is by the sea. The main language is Portuguese.
How many sports are represented?	There are 28 Olympic sports and there are 306 sets of medals to be awarded.
The sports that are not popular in NZ.	Synchronised swimming, modern pentathlon, fencing.
What I want to watch for the Olympics.	Synchronised swimming, gymnastics, shotput because Valerie Adams is in it.

          Holiday Recount

On Saturday on the first week of the holidays I when to Dargaville with Summer to her Dad’s. When we first got there we had to go to bed because it was about 9:00pm when we got there.

The day after that we went to Whangarei we got to go to smiggle. When we got to Smiggle we found out it was closed so after that we went to have some lunch. For lunch we had some delicious Butter Chicken Curry! When we had finished our Butter Chicken we went to Summer’s Uncle's place to stay for dinner. After dinner we went to the movies to see Ice Age. Before the movie Summer and I got a Ghostbusters Combo that came with a Ghostbusters drink and a huge box of popcorn.

The next Day we went into Dargaville to pick up Summer’s friend Elisa and then we went to Whangarei again to watch the movie Ghostbusters. When we got there we saw that the one that we were going to be on was in 3D. One bit in the movie gave everyone in the cinemas a fright because one of the ghost spat out slime and it looked like it was coming to us. When that happened Summer’s dad accidentally elbowed Elisa and Summer dropped her lollies. After the movie  we went to smiggle again and that time it was open.  The thing’s that I bought from Smiggle was a talking watch, a drawing book, three pencils and a rubber.

The next day we got packed up and headed back home.

PMI

This week we did a Learning Power week. Our group was called the Striking Strategies!

Each day we had a learning Power and Monday was Resiliencies, Tuesday was Being Me, Wednesday was Curiosity, Thursday was Connecting and Friday was Creativity.

What I liked about it is that we could do all these activities in our group and get points. I liked how much points that you get because if you win 1st we would get ten points and if we got 2nd we would get five points. What I also liked about it is that we had different people that we wouldn’t always work with.	What I didn’t really like is that sometime people in our group wouldn’t listen to some of my ideas. The thing I also didn’t really like is that some people would let our team down by being too silly. Another thing that I didn’t like is that when the time is up our creation would fall down before the teachers would come and mark it.	What I found interesting is the activities we had to do like the balloon challenge because we had to pile up  balloons as high as we could. Another thing that I found interesting is that the creations that we made were not that good but they would end up winning. What I also found interesting is the comments on the paper that our group did a sentence of what they like about us.

Ice Skating tour

Ice Skating Tour At Our School.

Last week on Thursday our Whetu Team went Ice Skating at our school. For Ice Skating the time that I went was 1:00-2:00. The things that I had to wear was gloves, socks, ice skates and a helmet. When I walked onto the ice it felt really really slippery. After about five minutes I got the hang of it and then started to do a bit of skating. When I Started skating I fell over a few times but I used my resilience and got up and tried again. After another five minutes I didn’t fall at all and I could do some little spins. I really enjoyed ice skating and I would love to do it again.
